ZIMBABWE Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) on Friday 16 October 2026 hosted representatives from the Embassy of Switzerland to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi at its Bulawayo offices, during a visit by Swiss Ambassador, Her Excellency Christine Schraner Burgener, and accompanying embassy officials.

The meeting, which was held at Amalungelo House, was attended by ZLHR Board Member Godfrey Nyoni and ZLHR Programmes Lawyer Sipho Fanuel Moyo, who briefed the Swiss Embassy delegation, which also included Rodrick Fayayo, Programme Manager and Miriam Bergqvist, Programme Officer, on the human rights organisation’s operations in Zimbabwe, its key programme areas and ongoing efforts to promote, protect and advance human rights in the country.

Nyoni and Moyo outlined ZLHR’s commitment to fostering a culture of human rights in Zimbabwe through legal representation, public interest litigation, advocacy and other interventions aimed at ensuring respect for and enjoyment of human rights, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

The engagement with officials from the Swiss Embassy provided ZLHR with an opportunity to share insights into its work in defending fundamental freedoms, promoting access to justice and holding duty-bearers accountable for upholding constitutional rights.

Nyoni and Moyo also expressed their appreciation to the Embassy of Switzerland to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi for its support to ZLHR, acknowledging the importance of continued partnerships in strengthening human rights protection and advancing access to justice in Zimbabwe.

The meeting with ZLHR’s representatives was part of the Swiss Ambassador’s official programme in Bulawayo, which commenced on 14 October 2026 and ended on 16 October 2026, during which the delegation held meetings and undertook field visits with local authorities, development partners and organisations supported by the Embassy.

ZLHR values its engagement with both local and international partners and remains committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders to strengthen the protection of human rights, promote democratic governance and advance the rule of law in Zimbabwe.
