The Project
The HIV/AIDS, Human Rights and Law Project was established in 2004 by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)
Mission
To enable and cultivate a legal and human rights response to HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe. The project seeks to use law and rights based programming in stemming the advance of the AIDS pandemic in Zimbabwean communities.
Objectives:
- To promote and protect the rights of persons infected and affected by HIV and AIDS through the provision of free legal services and the utilization of means of protection available juridically and administratively such as courts and relevant government and inter-governmental institutions.
- To promote and facilitate rights literacy on HIV and AIDS, human rights and law through training and public education.
- To develop the competency of a network of lawyers willing and able to litigate cases of HIV/AIDS and human rights at both national and international courts through training, networking and other capacity building initiatives.
- To develop and facilitate a regime of lobby and advocacy around HIV/AIDS and human rights through a national HIV/AIDS and Human Rights Charter, publications, position papers and other tools/initiatives.
- To advocate for the implementation of laws and policies that advance the rights of persons living with and affected by HIV/Aids through advocacy engagement with media, parliamentarians and policy makers.
- To advocate for best practices in the corporate sector for the provision of medication, treatment, and support services, including working towards rights based and protective insurance and medical policies
Strategic Units
The HIV/AIDS, Human Rights and Law Project operates three Units that represent the overall strategic areas of focus,viz;

b) Public Education and Training Unit
c) Lobby, Advocacy and Publications Unit
